A private American delegate visited North Korea and met with some of the countries officials in what is said to be the first face-to-face meeting between the two countries in almost 2 years. This meeting was not made by the U.S. government, but instead by the top aid of Mr. Bill Richardson. Bill Richardson has served as the intermediary between the United States and North Korea for many years. During this meeting, the U.S. addressed several things. One, that the U.S. be allowed to work on recovering the remains of American soldiers from the Korean War. Another thing that was addressed was request of the releasing of prisoner Otto Warmbier. Otto Warmbier is a U.S. citizen and student at the University of Virginia, who last January was imprisoned after being caught taking a North Korean propaganda sign off the wall of his hotel. The U.S. has requested his release from his "15 years of hard labor" sentence, however each request including this last one was not accepted.
